ABSTRACT

With an aging global population, elderly nursing in long-term care facilities is increasingly essential. This review article examines the competencies required for effective elderly care, such as geriatric assessment, communication skills, and the application of nursing theories. It explores nurse qualification standards, the integration of emerging technologies (e.g., robotics, AI monitoring, and telehealth), and the regulatory frameworks guiding nursing homes. By comparing the nursing systems in Korea, Japan, the United States, and the European Union, the paper identifies strengths and gaps in training, policy, and care delivery. Emphasis is placed on patient-centered care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continual nurse education to meet the complex needs of elderly residents. Recommendations are proposed for harmonizing international practices, enhancing workforce quality, and adopting technology ethically and efficiently.
